Nissan to Bring e-NV200 Electric Van into Mass Production by 2014

In the electric arena, Nissan headlined the North American International Auto Show with the world debut of its all-new, pure-electric e-NV200 Concept... If you're thinking it's essentially an electrified version of the Nissan NV200 commercial van, which is scheduled to become the Big Apples official taxi cab, you're absolutely right. The three primary differences are: A) It's electric B) Nissan hopes the e-NV200 will appeal to families as well as businesses and C) It offers a distinctive aesthetic.

In fact, Truckmasters can't quite decide whether the new EV concept van is retro or futuristic. We think both. The front is definitely reminiscent of the curvaceous LEAF; the rear, however, looks akin to boxy vans you'd see cruising down Route 66 in the seventies.

Another way in which the Nissan e-NV200 resembles the LEAF is with its driving range. That is approximately 73 miles on a complete battery charge. Which, considering the e-NV is a generously-sized van, is pretty impressive.

As an EV, the e-NV200 emits zero emissions and requires absolutely no petrol or diesel. As far as power is concerned, specs surrounding torque and horsepower were not released at January's show. However, Nissan has explicitly stated that the e-NV200 will offer payload and cargo space equal to the NV200 (~1,700 lbs and 145 cubic ft. respectively).
